People with Intellectual Disabilities Program
This new collaborative program between Compeer
and Mary Cariola Children’s Center will serve people dually diagnosed
with both a mental illness and an intellectual disability. Created through a grant from the B. Thomas Golisano Foundation, this program will serve dually diagnosed individuals in the Rochester area as they transition from youth services to adult services. Intellectual disabilities include severe, chronic disabilities due to mental and/or physical impairment, which result in limitations in self-care, language, learning, mobility and economic self-sufficiency. Fully trained volunteers are matched with dually diagnosed clients in mentoring relationships with the goals of improving their social skills and self-esteem, increasing their proficiency in life- and job-readiness skills, and decreasing their isolation. |
Compeer and Mary
Cariola Children’s Center are teaming up to serve people dually
diagnosed with a mental illness and an intellectual disability.
