In Loving Memory of Ben R. Giambrone

A husband. A father. A son. A community leader. An integral part of the Compeer family.

These were just a few of the many important roles played by Ben Giambrone, who tragically passed away Feb. 9 after a short but valiant battle against cancer at the age of 56.

With his passing, Compeer Rochester lost a dear friend and family member, and the entire community lost one of its most passionate leaders. Ben touched the lives of thousands of people in the Rochester community through his charitable works, including his dynamic leadership at Compeer.

Ben served as Compeer president and CEO from 2004-2006 and as board chair from 2002-2004. Under his leadership as co-chair of the annual Sports Luncheon, the event continually set new fund-raising records for Compeer’s volunteer-based programs. Notable recent achievements included the overwhelmingly successful luncheon appearances of Lou Holtz and Bill Walton.

Most importantly to Ben, he was a Compeer mentor to his friend, Josh.

"Ben was one of the kindest, most generous, warmhearted men I've ever met," said Dan Mason, general manager of the Rochester Red Wings and a Compeer Rochester board member. "He was just looking to put smiles on other people's faces.”

In addition to his Compeer work, Ben was actively involved with a number of community organizations, including Mary Cariola Children’s Center, Geva Theatre Center, Rochester Rotary Club and Rochester Press-Radio Club. Prior to joining Compeer, Giambrone worked at Mercer Human Resource Consulting, a world-leading human-resource consulting firm, for more than 25 years.

“It is a devastating loss for all of us, but we can take some comfort knowing that Compeer and the Rochester community as a whole are better places because of Ben’s dedication and energy,” said Dana Frame, president of Compeer Rochester.

Compeer’s thoughts and prayers are with Ben’s wife, Pam; their children, Robb (wife Helen), Charlie and Catie; his mother, Jean; his sister, Fran (husband Roger); and the entire Giambrone family.

Ben and his family will always be an integral part of the Compeer Rochester family.
